Maybe it’s just me, but every time I go for a walk downtown I always get the feeling that there’s this unspoken competition to be the house with the best window box display. Or possibly it’s simply a mutual and fierce love of gardening among those living downtown. Whatever it may be, there is definitely something that fuels the persistent dedication to producing the always seasonally appropriate, jaw-droppingly beautiful arrangements that line so many of the window ledges in Charleston.

I’ve rounded up images of my favorites to provide you with some Charleston inspiration for your own window box projects. And if nothing else, they’re just really darn pretty to look at!
I’ve also tried to split these window boxes into three groups to make it easier for you to find the look you’re going for.
Enjoy the scroll 😉
Classic, Simple Elegance:
I love how limiting yourself to two tones, or only a couple plant types, can make each element really pop.
And when those two tones are white and green…you can’t go wrong.

And I love how the bold colors, set inside pretty greens, give a combo that both complements and contrasts with the colors of the homes in these next two…

Or how they can be used to pull on the color of the buildings in the two below, like an accessory matching your favorite outfit.

Okay, next up…
Colors Upon Colors:
When the color scheme is…all of them!
This look is so vibrant and fun! The window box below has deep, blue-grey leaves that anchor it to the color of the window box itself, but then lots of pops of color to draw your eye across the entire arrangement. It may just be my personal favorite…

And this next one just went all in on color…and size…and variety! And it’s so so beautiful.

Or you may prefer the daintier version below, which is smaller but still makes a big statement.

And speaking of dainty, I love how this next one is full of only little flowers, but lots of them so it still has plenty of color.

And last for this category is this beauty! It has color, shapes, and layers – which is a perfect way to dress up neutral colors on a home.

And it’s a good segue into the last group…
Go Big, Or Go Home:
Sometimes bigger really is better!
Like this one…it’s like the three window boxes just merged into one amazingly stunning window box. I can’t get over how pretty it is.

Or this one! Seriously, what are they feeding these plants?!?! For perspective, these arrangements were basically as tall as I am. Which is 5’6’’.

Finally, to round things off, these last two might not have as much of the cascading element that the previous two have, but they’ve made up for it in height. And I love how full and almost wild they are!

So what do you think?? Did you find something that you want to try out in your own window boxes? Or did this post make you realize that you really NEED window boxes? I’m with you!
Let me know what other kinds of outdoor inspiration you’d like to read about in future posts in the comments below! I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Beautiful flower boxes. The colors of the flowers just set off the colors of the homes so well. There is no place like downtown Charleston for inspiration and ideas to take home and make your home just as special.
